Day 1: Delhi

Arrive in Delhi

Upon your arrival into Delhi, India’s tumultuous and history-dense capital city, you will be greeted at the airport by a local representative and transferred to your hotel in a comfortable private vehicle.

A city of contrasts, Delhi’s bustling streets are home to ancient Mughal-era architecture and modern skyscrapers. Rich in history, the city has served as capital of various empires throughout the centuries and is now a melting pot of cultures where people from across India flock in search of opportunity.

Day 1: Delhi

Day 2: Delhi - Agra

Board the Maharajas’ Express, Visit the Taj Mahal

In the morning, you’ll transfer to Delhi Safdarjung station at approximately 06:00 to begin your journey aboard the luxurious Maharajas’ Express.

After completing your registration and check-in formalities and enjoying a refreshing welcome drink, the train will depart Delhi at 07:00, journeying towards the enchanting city of Agra, home to some of India’s most splendid remnants of the Mughal Empire.

After enjoying a delicious breakfast and lunch on board, you’ll disembark at Agra and visit the iconic Taj Mahal, a UNESCO World Heritage Site built by Mughal emperor Shah Jahan as a mausoleum for his favourite queen, Mumtaz Mahal. Gleaming beneath the sun with its dazzling white-marble façade, seeing this architectural masterpiece with its stunning inlay work and impressive dome is an experience that is nothing short of breathtaking.

After marvelling at the Taj Mahal, you’ll return to the Maharajas’ Express where you can enjoy optional activities including visiting a spa at a nearby 5-star hotel or exploring the city of Agra in a private car with a guide.

Day 2: Delhi - Agra

Day 3: Agra – Ranthambore National Park

Visit Agra Fort, Game Drive in Ranthambore National Park

Early in the morning, you’ll visit Agra Fort, a formidable red-sandstone fortress that was once a place of residence for the Mughal emperors. After exploring the imposing fort and its beautiful courtyards, lush gardens and opulent palaces, you’ll return to the train to enjoy breakfast on board as the train pulls out of the station and travels towards Ranthambore National Park.

After a hearty lunch on board the Maharajas’ Express, you’ll disembark for an enthralling game drive through Ranthamore National Park’s diverse landscapes, which range from deciduous forests to grassy meadowland.

Keep your eyes peeled as your Jeep trundles through the park to spot elusive leopards skulking the forest floor, Sambar deer flitting gracefully through the grassland, and the fiery coat and piercing eyes of the majestic and formidable Royal Bengal tiger. Ranthambore National Park is also home to an astonishing diversity of birdlife, with some 270 avian species including peafowls, crested serpent eagles and Indian paradise flycatchers. Immerse yourself in the raw beauty of nature and savour the indelible experience of observing these untamed creatures roaming their natural habitat.

Following this indelible safari experience, you’ll return to the train to enjoy a sumptuous dinner as the Maharajas’ Express continues its journey towards the royal city of Jaipur.

Day 3: Agra – Ranthambore National Park

Day 4: Jaipur

Visit Amer Fort, Royal Dinner at the Rambagh Palace Hotel

After a replenishing breakfast on board, you’ll disembark and enjoy a grand traditional welcome before beginning an immersive tour of the ‘Pink City’ of Jaipur, commencing at 08:00 with a visit to the magnificent Amer Fort.

This imposing fortress looms majestically atop the Aravalli Hills overlooking Jaipur. Its ornate architecture and intricate detailing are nothing short of awe-striking, and inside you can explore its palaces, courtyards and gardens, gaining insights into the rich heritage and royal lifestyle of a bygone era in Indian history.

You’ll then return to the Maharajas’ Express for a leisurely lunch on board, before having the opportunity to enjoy a range of optional activities including spa facilities at a 5-star hotel, visits to the elaborately detailed City Palace and Jantar Mantar observatory or exploring the city in a private car with a guide.

In the evening, you’ll sit down for a sumptuous dinner at the Rambagh Palace Hotel, which occupies a repurposed palace built in 1835 that was once the residence of the Maharaja of Jaipur from 1925 until 1957. Now a luxury hotel, the palace retains many elements of its royal splendour such as hand-carved marble latticework and elaborate landscapes gardens.

After your royal feast, you’ll return to the train by 21:00 as the Maharajas’ Express proceeds to the beautiful city of Bikaner.

Day 4: Jaipur

Day 5: Bikaner

Junagarh Fort, Sundowners on the Sand Dunes

As you enjoy a delicious breakfast on board, take some time to admire the passing scenery as the train approaches the desert citadel of Bikaner.

Once the train arrives in Bikaner, you can choose to relax on board or embark on one of the optional tours to the Lalgarh Palace Museum, which displays fascinating exhibits on Bikaner’s royal heritage. Following lunch on board, you’ll disembark and proceed to Junagarh Fort, an unassailable fortress built in 1593 by Raja Rai Singh, the Raja of Bikaner who served Mughal Emperor Akbar as the Subahdar of Lahore. This formidable structure stands encircled by a moat, though its real beauty can be found inside its impenetrable walls, within which you can explore the Diwan-i-Khas, Phool Mahal (Flower Palace), Hawa Mahal, Badal Mahal and Anup Mahal.

Later on, you can experience the royal pageantry as a convoy of camel carts accompanied by musicians takes you for a sundowner on the sand dunes which surround the city. Sip thirst-quenching cocktails and savour succulent barbecued delicacies as you enjoy traditional folk-art performances like the Langaas and Kalbeliyas, all while immersed in the enchanting beauty of the rolling desert dunes.

You’ll then return to the comfort of the Maharajas’ Express by 20:15 as it resumes its journey towards the glorious city of Jodhpur, which lies cradled within the arid landscapes of the Thar Desert.

Day 5: Bikaner

Day 6: Jodhpur

Mehrangarh Fort, Old Clock Tower Market, Cocktail Dinner

As the Maharajas’ Express pushes on through the evocative landscapes of the Marwar region, enjoy a leisurely breakfast on board.

You can then spend the morning relaxing on board or participating in an optional tour to the Bishnoi villages to experience authentic life in rural India. Alternatively, you can relax and enjoy the spa facilities at a 5-star hotel or visit the Umaid Bhawan Palade Museum and Jaswant Thada or simply explore the city highlights in a private guide-driven car.

After returning to the train for lunch, you’ll visit the magnificent Mehrangarh Fort which stands guard over the blue city of Jodhpur. Here you can admire the fort’s intricate latticed windows, elaborately carved panels and arches. Then, you’ll hop on a tuk-tuk before embarking on a walking tour of the Old Clock Tower Market, where you can get a glimpse into the daily lifestyle of the local residents, passing some of the city’s traditional houses and havelis.

Come evening, you’ll head to Khaas Bangh, a charming heritage hotel where you can indulge in an exclusive cocktail evening and sample a variety of sumptuous traditional Marwar cuisine dishes.

Afterwards, you’ll return to the train and continue your journey towards the picturesque city of Udaipur, the ‘City of Lakes’.

Boat Ride on Lake Pichola, Udaipur City Tour, Lunch at Fateh Prakash Palace

Wake up to glorious views of the Aravalli Hills as the train pulls into Udaipur. After breakfast on board, you’ll disembark at 10:00 and head to the gently lapping shores of Lake Pichola for a scenic boat ride, taking in the majesty of Udaipur’s grand buildings and island palaces.

Following your boat ride, you’ll visit the City Palace, the largest palace complex in Rajasthan that features scalloped arches, fretted balconies and cupolas. Then, you’ll head to Mor Chowk to see its splendid mosaics of peacocks; Moti Mahal with its striking mirror work; Chini Mahal, which stands covered in ornamental tiles; and the spectacular Zenana Mahal. You’ll also explore The Crystal Gallery and the Darbar Hall with an audio guide.

Then, feel like Rajasthani royalty as you stop at Fateh Prakash Palace for a delicious culinary spread within one of the palace’s opulent halls. After lunch, you’ll return to the Maharajas’ Express for a relaxed afternoon on board as the train proceeds towards the frenetic city of Mumbai. During the evening, you can enjoy a special Indian Evening on board, raising a toast to your unforgettable Indian train odyssey.

Disembark

Spend a relaxing morning on board as the train trundles towards its final destination, Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, where you’ll bid farewell to the Maharajas’ Express and disembark at approximately 16:35.

You’ll be greeted at the station by a local representative and transferred to your hotel in a private vehicle.
